If someone were to visit Houston from out of town, I would definitely tell them to see the Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the nationally ranked Houston Theater District, including the Houston Symphony and the Houston Grand Opera, The Galleria – the No. 1 shopping destination in Houston, and of course my beautiful dining room in the Rice Military neighborhood.
I was mainly surprised at how green and spread out Houston is and how sophisticated the people can be, which broke a lot of preconceptions I had about Texans - especially after living in New York like I did. I was also surprised to see how people in Houston love to eat out.
What makes Houston special? Well, I’d say since three years ago, Moi! No, but seriously the beautiful women who live here make Houston special. Even more seriously, I’d say how incredible and welcoming Houstonians can be toward newcomers like me. They give you the chance to succeed if you have a little bit of talent and the will to work hard.
People are most likely to find me at the West Creek Starbucks with my non-fat cappuccino or running around Memorial Park, but without a doubt I spend most of my time at bistro moderne!
My perfect day in Houston is sleeping late and watching the news, then lying down at my pool, going for a run in the park, stopping at Starbucks, shopping at The Galleria and then dining at a place that’s not too loud so I can have a conversation and then I’d finish the day off by salsa dancing.
My favorite places to eat would definitely be Reef and Catalan for dinner, Farrago for brunch (more for the scene than for the food) and the Tasting Room for a glass of wine. For shopping, my favorite stores are Saks Fifth Avenue, it’s my second home, and I love Lucho if I need to show off while I’m out on the town.
I think people underestimate Houston – it is so entertaining and has a variety of things to fit everyone’s taste!
