If someone visits during rodeo time, that is a must. Year round, I think Houston has an amazing theater district (ballet, opera, symphony, theater) and wonderful museums.
What makes Houston special? The people - the young, the old, the beautiful and the bizarre, the natives and the transplants. You gotta love the mix and the can-do spirit that drives everyone here. It's infectious.
If I'm not on the stage of the Wortham Theater, than I will certainly be around good food, which Houston is known for having plenty.
A perfect day in Houston begins with one of those perfectly gorgeous weather days while the rest of the country is still shoveling snow. I enjoy the farmer's market to buy local produce followed by a picnic out on the green and a trip to my favorite museum, the Menil, with my fiancé.
For special occasions, I go to either Brennan's for brunch or Mark's for a culinary event. I go to Gravitas for a real treat, Tony Mandola's because it reminds me of home (New Orleans), Berryhill for a yummy on-the-go, Jenni's Noodle House just because I love the place, Cafe Lili for my Lebanese fix, and the Teahouse to get my favorite peach green tea with tapioca to be refreshed at the end of a hard day of dancing. I do multipurpose shopping at the Whole Earth Provisions and I love Kuhl-Linscomb.
Houston's best kept secret is Miller Outdoor Theatre! I'm always amazed when we dance out at Hermann Park that some of our finest performing arts organizations give performances at Miller for free. What can be better than sipping wine or downing beer on the "hill" while watching a great show under the stars.
It's green here. The summers are hot, but the humidity is great for keeping wrinkles from developing! Plus we have air conditioning.
Also, there is something for everyone here. We have a culture that we love to share with anyone who desires to want to know more.
