When people from out of town come visit me I always take them to the Museum District. I grew up coming to the rodeo almost every year so that's a favorite event for me to take guests to...especially if they're from out of state! Lakewood Church is always on my tour of Houston. My friend says coming to Houston and not going to see Joel Osteen is like going to Paris and not seeing the Louvre!
Houston is a great city with amazing people. Texas is home to me and Houston is the perfect mix of city life with the charm of a small town. I grew up in a tiny town near Amarillo (Childress) so I appreciate friendly, warm people. Houston is full of them!
You'll probably find me working out at the gym or dragging my little dog Marley around with me! I love to cook and make dinner most nights so I'm constantly at the grocery store. I also enjoy working in the garden when it's not too hot.
My perfect day in Houston would certainly involve sleeping in, since I wake up when most college students go to bed! The banana pancakes at The St. Regis Hotel and coffee are a good start! Reading by the pool and then a quiet night at home would complete a perfect day.
Houston has amazing restaurants! My new favorite is Armandos for margaritas, chili con queso and ceviche. Crapitto's and Bice have wonderful eggplant parmesan and Fleming's lobster tempura and mojitos are fabulous. If it's time to celebrate champagne and a cinnamon soufflé at Tony's is perfect. Mariposa at Neiman's has bread that is so amazing it reminds me of my great grandmother's! Shipley's has been a staple in my diet for decades, their bear claws are my favorite guilty pleasure.
I shop like most people sleep...constantly! I buy most of work clothes and shoes at Neiman's and Gregory's. I like Zara for fun basics.
Houston's best kept secret is Hotel Icon downtown. The rooms there are interesting and luxurious and are stocked with my favorite Molton Brown bath products. It's a great place for a romantic weekend getaway, even though it's in Houston.
I feel so lucky to be covering the news in Houston. I love KPRC and I have a wonderful co-anchor Owen Conflenti who helps me work and often laugh despite the fact it's 3:30 in the morning and we're at work! My job has taken me all over the country and now I couldn't be happier that it's brought me back home to Texas.
